Got a older system laying around with a Crosshair II formula with a Phenom 9850 and 4 gigs of ram.
Also got a 120 gig ssd
      Tplink switch 16 port

Iam guessing this is likely overkill in some areas but i have the parts sitting around.

Any downsides you can see to using this?

Its power hungry.. what specific tplink switch... Are you wanting to do vlans with it?

Hard to argue with stuff you've already got as a test at least.

Come buy hardware from us when you're done testing. 😉

            Likely going to do vlans.

Agreed it somewhat power hungry for the job but for the moment its a quick fix tell we decide where everything is going and how.

ok I think that model of tplink does vlans correctly their cheap 5 and 8 port do not.. All ports are stuck in vlan 1 and can not be removed. I think they released a firmware fix for v3, but if your on v2 your stuck with a POS...

I've got the v1 of that switch and..... 😬

Works fine as an unmanaged switch.
