I have started (two-three weeks) to have my pfSense box continue to function (fully, I believe) with the exception that I can not interact with it. The command line console(s) do not respond, and I cannot get the web frontend to load (504 timeout).

When the happens, the only way I can find to get control back is by cycling the power.

I would like some help from the community troubleshooting this issue.

What should I try first? What should I look for in the logs?

      Thanks for your help.

How are you connecting to the CLI? SSH or via the console directly?

Try pressing Ctl+T at the console to see if it's truly frozen. If not what does it show it's waiting for?

What hardware is this on? What pfSense version are you running?

        Steve

            Hello to all,
Same here. I'm on the latest version x64 2.4.3 , in a vm on a esx6.0 with e1000 as nic(s). The console (not the ssh) does not freeze but also server(s) that i'm trying to access behind the firewall (for example using ssh) also timeout-after the username prompt the connection drops.
I have a pfsense 2.3 i386 as a secondary unit (carp etc)(in another esxi5.5) that does not have the same behavior.

            Anyone has any ideas?
(right now i'm trying to recreate the 1st one from scratch)

            thnks in advance

Ctl+T is only useful if the local console stops responding.

I don't think these are the same issue, you seem to be reporting different symptoms. It's probably not useful posting in the same thread.

ESXi issues should definitely go in the virtualisation sub-forum.

I haven't had a lock up in the past few days. I am leaving on vacation for a week. I will report when I get back.
