I have a pfsense firewall run on vmware esx 6.5. I have tried to add a new network interface when pfsense is running. I alert that 'vmx4 detached' and reboot the firewall. After rebooting, I can not see vmx4 in both web GUI anf CLI of pfsense.

What problem happended and how can I get vmx4?

Really you should not add hardware whist the instance is running like that. But I would expect it to show all presented NICs after the reboot.

I assume you already had vmx0-3 interfaces?

Check the boot log for errors attaching to the virtual NIC.

Try running pciconf -lv at the command line and make sure all 5 NICs are shown.
