    avahi fails to start at pfSense boot time

      pfSense 2.4.3-RELEASE-p1
      avahi package version 1.12

      I see the following, 3 times in a row, in the system log:

      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 Found user 'avahi' (UID 558) and group 'avahi' (GID 558).
      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 Successfully dropped root privileges.
      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 avahi-daemon 0.6.31 starting up.
      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 WARNING: No NSS support for mDNS detected, consider installing nss-mdns!
      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 dbus_bus_get_private(): Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 WARNING: Failed to contact D-Bus daemon.
      Sep 13 15:52:52 avahi-daemon 1105 avahi-daemon 0.6.31 exiting.

      After pfSense is up and running, I can start avahi manually and get the following in the log:

      Sep 13 16:03:05 avahi-daemon 96404 Found user 'avahi' (UID 558) and group 'avahi' (GID 558).

        You can try disabling d-bus.

        Alternatively, there is a new version of the Avahi package under review that should address the issue. You can try the beta if you like:
