My fresh pfSense install is waiting at the boot menu for input. I have to hit enter to get it to start up, waiting doesn't do anything. My /boot/defaults/loader.conf file had autoboot_delay="10". My /boot/loader.conf file had autoboot_delay="3". I changed the /boot/loader.conf to -1 and it doesn't prompt for input anymore and successfully boots without interaction. However, after rebooting, autoboot_delay goes back to 3. How can I get it to stick permanently? If that's not possible, what can I do to get my system to boot after 3 or 10 seconds instead of waiting for input?

I'm running a fresh install of the latest pfSense software.

You can probably set that in /boot/loader.conf.local to override the default.

However it should wait three seconds then continue booting. Does it not show anything?

@stephenw10 It just shows the standard menu (hit 1 for this, 2 for that, etc) and stays there endlessly until I hit enter.

Hmm, odd. Like something is already interrupting the countdown. I'm not familiar with that situation.

                You tried setting autoboot_delay="-1" in /boot/loader.conf.local ?

I assume you found this but create file if it doesn't exist. The regular loader.conf file can be overwritten at upgrade.
