      Dear Community,,

This is my first time posting here and I would like to ask which of the 3 options would be best for my use case. After reading a lot of articles and posts on this topic, I'm now trying to find out which of the 3 options would be the best one.

      1. a box based on i5-5250U
      2. a box based on i7-4610Y
      3. a box based on i3-5005u

They all have AES support in hardware, so they should be be good with the new release of 2.5.

I will not be using any wifi from the box. Pfsense will be used as my router and firewall.

Simple schematics of my network: VDSL2 modem (100/20), Pfsense router/firewall/vpn, netgear poe switch/Ubiquiti APs.

Many thanks in advance for any constructive input :).

Wouldn't you be better looking at something Atom based, they'd use less power.

Have a look at the specs for the 5100 if you want a few ideas:-

        https://www.netgate.com/solutions/pfsense/sg-5100.html

I use a SG-4860 and the SG-5100 is its replacement, im on VDSL 74/18 running almost what you want to and I also run snort.

        1 x Netgate SG-4860 - 3 x Linksys LGS308P - 1 x Aruba InstantOn AP22

@NogBadTheBad Thank you for your reply. I did check out the SG-5100, however it's a bit expensive in EU, plus it has a Atom C3558 which is not only slower than the i7-4610Y benchmark it's also less power efficient) (16w for Atom vs 11.5w for the i7).

In order to be clearer, I'm looking at the following options right now:

          1. a box based on i5-5250U here
          2. a box based on i7-4610Y here
          3. a box based on i3-5005u here

Now because you've mentioned Atom C3558, I'm also looking at this

I hope this makes it a bit clearer. By comparison the SG-5100 costs 799 EUR here, about 926 USD.

May I ask where in the EU you are looking/located?
