I upgraded through the webUI from 2.4.3 to 2.4.4.

The router then failed to reboot.

Once I found all the required pieces to get the router diagnosed, I could see the filesystem was not loading properly any longer.

Rather than muck about, since I had backed up my config, I downloaded the 2.4.4 image from here:
      https://portal.pfsense.org/firmware/sg-1000/

      FYI

My advice, prep an install usb and keep it handy, this is the second time I've had this kind of a problem with this machine.

I'm sorry your upgrade didn't go as smoothly as expected but, yes, having a copy on the install media on hand before running it is always a good idea. Especially if that's your only available internet connection.
And obviously be sure to have a config backup to restore into it.

I'd start a new thread, but this is pretty much the same topic. Just happened to me an hour ago. Console port just throws out continuous "CCCCC"s like the speed is wrong. I've tried several different speeds from the standard 115200 and nothing works, does an update put the serial in some other config? I tried the above url to get an image, but am unable to download as it tells me I have no access? How can I get an image to restore this to factory default and start over? I have a backup of the configs so just need the image!

The 'CCCC's indicate it's no longer able to load even uboot from the eMMC. You will probably need to boot from uSD card to get it back on there.
If you don't have access to the image via the support portal open a support ticket at https://go.netgate.com with your serial number and our support guys will come straight back to you with a download link.

Yeah, I thought so, thanks for the quick response. I've opened a ticket. I assume the above you mean a USB Memstick/device right? Are there instructions on how to recover using that method that I can get a jump on while waiting for the link.

Nevermind, link and email receive. :)

Booting from USB requires uboot so you will need to boot from uSD card using the internal slot if it cannot find a valid uboot.

                See option 2 here: https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/solutions/sg-1000/faq.html#how-do-i-restore-the-firewall-os-firmware

Yeah, I see, which is a problem as I don't believe I have anything that will take a micro-sd card.
