SG-5100 driver for Windows 7
-
Just got an SG-5100, made a mistake and got locked out of the Web GUI. I tried to use the console interface via the supplied USB cable, but Windows 7 won't load the driver for the device. Very strange.
I actually tried on 2 Windows 7 and 1 Windows 10 computer. Same result. Can someone give me some advice?
Thanks,
Rod

any usb-to-serial device i've used was plug n pray ... and didn't need any manual installation.
the netgate manual (https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/solutions/sg-5100/connect-to-console.html) provides a link for manually downloading the driver: https://prolificusa.com/product/pl2303hx-rev-d-usb-serial-uart-bridge-controller/

Thank you very much for your help. I missed that section in the manual.
Actually, I plugged it into 3 different computers and Windows did not assign a COM port to it. The Device Manager showed it was an unknown device. But, I downloaded the driver package and installed it. Now, I can get into the console.
Thanks.

When I had this problem, I found out Windows 7 was configured to not look for a driver on Windows Update. It led me to the option to enable that and then it worked and found COM3
