What version of pfSense runs on this appliance hardware if I bought one now? I haven't purchased yet, still researching.

The SG3100 has space for a mSATA card, does opening the box void the warranty? If adding an mSATA card, would I need to reload the OS or is there some other way to make the system use it? I have not installed pfsense anywhere so I have no experience with it. Assuming the extra space is for addon packages like snort etc

Yes you have to reinstall after replacing the storage: https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/solutions/sg-3100/reinstall-pfsense.html
            BTW: You can order the SG-3100 with 32GB M.2 SATA pre-installed: https://store.netgate.com/SG-3100.aspx

Funny you should mention that. That's what I just did today, order a SG3100 preinstalled 32G SATA card.

No maximum that I know of.

Generally the smaller the better in this application though.

                      Hi,

I've a SG-3100 but it allow me to upgrade only to 21.02_1, not the community edition 2.5.

                      Need to understand:

                      • if I install FE only one package is free, so where can I get a pricing for the modules that now are running and after update they will stop to run?
                      • Is there a way to run CE on this device?

                      Thanks, BR

@summer You misunderstand. There is no charge for packages on pfSense Plus. In fact, there are a couple more packages like VPN wizards available. Included. Where did you see that packages were charged for? If you let us know the URL we can correct it if we control it.

There is no CE for the SG-3100. It is an ARM device and there is currently no CE version for ARM. You have never been running CE on the SG-3100.

@summer Those should not be there. They are being corrected. Thank you for pointing it out.

Yes that's just a note indicating these are free packages:

Add optional packages such as Snort or Suricata for IDS/IPS and network security monitoring, Squid for optimized content delivery and SquidGuard for anti-spam/anti-phishing and URL filtering.1

The 1 there should also be superscript.

                              Thanks for noting that.

                              Steve
