Updating Current Base System 2.4.2_1 to Latest Base System 2.4.4
-
Still looking for help, anyone able to give me some info about this? I see a lot of threads of people having issues with 2.4.4, is it not a good idea to upgrade right now?
-
You should upgrade to 2.4.4, but do not do it during business hours. Go to diagnostics, backup & restore, and save the config. Download the 2.4.4 installer for your device and be prepared to do a re-install and restore. If the upgrade goes well, the firewall will reboot and disrupt the users, but come back up with all settings intact.

First, I'd wait a few days, we'll have 2.4.4-p1 out and then you can only run one update instead of two.
Second, everything you need to know is covered in the Upgrade Guide
Your settings will stay, but there will be downtime during the upgrade. It's best to run off hours or in a maintenance window of some kind, to be absolutely safe.

@jimp Do you know the exact date that the p1 will be released? Also, thank you for the confirmation.
-
No, it's still being tested. Could be tomorrow, could be next week, depends on the results of the testing.

@jimp Okay, the reason I am even needing to do the upgrade is I am trying to install a package to monitor bandwidth usage because we believe we have some people hogging bandwidth at the site. Are you able to give me a recommendation on a package I should be using for that? Also do you think it would be okay for me to upgrade to the 2.4.4 simply to be able to get the bandwidth monitoring going sooner than later, and then upgrade to the p1 whenever it comes out? Our client is pushing us for the monitoring which was my concern with time. Thanks again!

There is a great Bandwidth Monitoring on pfSense Hangout done by @jimp

If you are in hurry to download any Packages sure you can go for 2.4.4 - why not?-Rico
