Greetings! Long time pfSense user including on DIY kit from Netgate. First time SG-5100

The marketing page https://store.netgate.com/SG-5100.aspx says it can run Suricata or Snort.

The 8GB eMMC seems rather small. Also this thread seems to indicate that M2 and SSD drives for more space are unsupported.

I understand the SG-5100 parts (RAM and M2) are now becoming rare. Is there a recommended path to a SG-5100 build to run Suricata? Or do you have success with the built-in 8GB? Suciata is verrrry noisy if you haven't noticed.

I can build a SecurityOnion and put it on a switch mirror port, but would prefer using the on-board IDS feature.

      Thank you,
      A Dave

Hmmm for other Appiances like SG-3100 or XG-7100 there are Storage options in the offical Netgate shop. I'd drop the Sales team some message (sales@netgate.com) and ask for this Option.

But where do you read more space is unsupported? This thread just says you need to reinstall pfSense to the additional Storage you've added.

Aside from an older bug https://forum.netgate.com/topic/130980/suricata-not-limiting-log-sizes-by-default Suricata shouldn't use much disk space. I checked a client's SG-3100 and Disk Usage on the pfSense home page shows "24% of 7.0GiB."

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.
