[SOLVED] Upgrade problem 2.4.3-RELEASE-p1 to 2.4.4_p1 - Lost VGA Console
-
When I upgraded from 2.4.3-RELEASE-p1 to 2.4.4_p1 via the web GUI, I lost the VGA console.
It freezes with
Booting...
|The spinner doesn't spin and I don't see any boot messages. Fortunately the system seems to work otherwise.
I SSHed in and looked through dmesg and the only messages that I could recognize that has anything to do with video is:
**vgapci0: <VGA-compatible display> port 0xf080-0xf087 mem 0xd0000000-0xd03fffff,0xc0000000-0xcfffffff irq 16 at device 2.0 on pci0 vgapci0: Boot video device**
Could the system have switched to a serial console (that doesn't exist-I think there may be a UART internally that isn't populated on the board), and hence no output?
Another possible hint - I did try to boot a 2.4.4_p1 USB stick, and the console writing was much smaller (a good thing).
Any clues as to what might be going on?
As always, any assistance is much appreciated.

Read the part about console problems near the end of that section, you might need to add
kern.vty=sc
into your/boot/loader.conf.local
and then reboot. -

I read that, but a J1900 is a Celeron not an Atom, so I didn't think this applied.
So for anyone else in the same boat, this issue applies to J1900 (and maybe other Celerons as well.)
