I’m planning to use proxmox to use PFSense and ZoneMinder.
I Wanted to build a config on a i3 8100
And i was thinking, I could allocate 1 core 1 thread to PFSense with 2/4Gbits of ram
Is it enough?

@jules13 I gig ram will do plenty in most scenarios. Some more threads always help

I have read a lot of thread on the hardware but none of them was describing a configuration with Coffee Lake CPU and virtualization.
So will 1 Core 1 Thread be enough to run pfsense.Thank you for your help

@jules13 The exact model of the cpu is totaly irrelevant for a pf virtual guest.
It will run on any modern cpu (of the last decade at least) Depending on what you do, (filtering, caching, proxying, load balancing, millions of users, many encrypted vpn's , yes you will need cpu cores, disk and ram. -
I would give it no less than two cores. I run pfSense on QEMU/KVM, and all my virtual machines get the maximum 4 cores available from my AMD CPU. The host OS manages the allocation of CPU time to the threads for each vCPU.
"It is perfectly safe if the overall number of cores of all your VMs is greater than the number of cores on the server (e.g., 4 VMs with each 4 cores on a machine with only 8 cores). In that case the host system will balance the Qemu execution threads between your server cores, just like if you were running a standard multithreaded application. However, Proxmox VE will prevent you from assigning more virtual CPU cores than physically available, as this will only bring the performance down due to the cost of context switches."

Yes. But what are you wanting to do with pfSense?
What bandwidth do your need? Will you be running packages?

Hmm, well if you use Squid/Squidguard to do web filtering I would want to see 2 cores there really, at least.
