Second (private) IP on WAN for modem management
-
Hi,
I have a running standard setup with one DHCP assigned public IP on the WAN interface and a private subnet (172.16.1.0/24) on the LAN site. Default outbound NAT rules are in place.
My modem on the WAN site is just a bridge but have a static management IP (192.168.1.1/24).
Now I like to connect from the internal LAN to the management web interface of the modem.
But I'm not sure how to achieve this. I guess I have to define a VIP on the WAN interface (IP Alias or Other? ). But what kind of NAT or rules are necessary? Thanks and happy new year

Thank you very much. Even I googled and used the search function I have not found this KB entry.
I had to do a small adjustment to the howto written in the KB. Because I don't use PPPoE and the physical interface is already bound, I added a virtual ip "IP Alias" to the WAN interface. And in the NAT definition I set the new virtual IP in the mentioned "Translation" box.

Glad you have it working.
