[solved] no serial console on new SG-1100
-
I recently received a new SG-1100 and I have been unable to get serial console access.
I have successfully configured pfSense via the webui, but would like to get the console working.
I am using a MacBook Air running OSX 10.14.3.
I've consulted https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-1100/connect-to-console.html#simple-configuration and not been able to get the console to connect to my MacBook Air.
I run "ls /dev/*cu*" before and after connecting the USB cable. There is no change in the output. The Console Port Device never appears in /dev/
I have tried two different cables. Ideas?

Do you see anything logged on OSX indicating a device is detected but there is no driver attached?

tail /var/log/install shows this every time I connect the USB cable:
2019-02-24 14:59:02-05 air01 PrintUITool[12968]: SUSoftwareUpdateController: Service connection invalidated!

Did you install the prolific serial uart driver from here:
https://prolificusa.com/product/pl2303hx-rev-d-usb-serial-uart-bridge-controller/
That device will show up as
/dev/cu.usbserial

I did not. I failed to see that part of the process.
It is installed, laptop rebooted, and I have a serial console. Thank you.
Sorry for the noise. :/
