I have been troubleshooting this new install to no avail, the details are as follows:

Hardware: old Lenovo laptop + USB LAN adapter

      Software: pfSense 2.4.4_1

WAN: Directly connected to cable MODEM, DHCP gets a public IPv4 address

LAN: DHCP on for 192.168.1.1/24; second laptop directly connected directly to the LAN interface address 192.168.1.11, default GW and DNS resolver 192.168.1.1

Settings Default firewall rules, auto NAT, DNS resolver enabled.

With this setup I can ping google.com or any other website from the second laptop, DNS resolves ping works.

When I try to access any website on a browser, nothing works. Pages don't load, except in one instance were a page barely loaded (without pics).

I have tried to reinstall; tested the USB adapter separately; tested connecting WAN to a home router and getting a private address (unblocked RFC 1918 and BOGON); and connected the LAN to a switch then the laptop. Nothing worked.

If anyone has a suggestion that might help, I'd really appreciate it.

Have you gone through the Connectivity guide? It almost sounds like asymmetrical routing, but you only have the one WAN.

        https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Connectivity_Troubleshooting

Post screenshots of your WAN/LAN config & rules so we can see what you're doing. Obscure any public details like your WAN IP address.

Could be an MTU issue. Try to ping with large packets, how large will pass?
