    OK, I've got a Nexcom 1041, cracked it open, and put in the bootable CF card and a 1GB stick of Kingston DDR266 RAM.

    But when I power the beast on, I get a long beep, followed by a tune played through the built-in speaker.  Plugging in a keyboard doesn't seem to help, and nothing shows up onscreen if I plug in a monitor.

    I'm not having any luck finding reference to POST beep sequences in any of the NexCom manuals, and have a call in to their tech support.

    Has anybody experienced this?  Ideas?

    Thanks!

      1. Connect the serial cable
      2. Open the unit and move the serial cable to serial #1.. It's most likely on COM2.

        @sullrich:

        That doesn't apply to the 1041C. The front serial port already is COM1. See http://www.mail-archive.com/support@pfsense.com/msg03811.html for how to get the nexcom 1041c work with pfSense. I have 3 1041c out for production use, 2 with hdd installs, 1 with cf-card embedded version. All of them working great.
