New pfSense Appliance no longer booting properly after minor changes
-
Hello,
Just bought a pfSense XG-7100-DT appliance last week. After making some 'minor' changes with the webgui, such as
- Creating OpenVPN client config for NordVPN
- Installing Snort
my appliance no longer seems to boot properly. COnnecting through console doesn't help me any further, as most options don't seem to result in any action..
The console is full of warnings and errors like thse:
Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'zmq.so' (tried: /usr/local/lib/php/20131226/zmq.so (Cannot open "/usr/local/lib/php/20131226/zmq.so"), /usr/local/lib/php/20131226/zmq.so.so (Cannot open "/usr/local/lib/php/20131226/zmq.so.so")) in Unknown on line 0 Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'pdo_sqlite.so' (tried: /usr/local/lib/php/20131226/pdo_sqlite.so (Cannot open "/usr/local/lib/php/20131226/pdo_sqlite.so"), /usr/local/lib/php/20131226/pdo_sqlite.so.so (Cannot open "/usr/local/lib/php/20131226/pdo_sqlite.so.so")) in Unknown on line 0 Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'xmlreader.so' (tried: /usr/local/lib/php/20131226/xmlreader.so (Cannot open "/usr/local/lib/php/20131226/xmlreader.so"), /usr/local/lib/php/20131226/xmlreader.so.so (Cannot open "/usr/local/lib/php/20131226/xmlreader.so.so")) in Unknown on line 0 Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function gettext() in /etc/inc/certs.inc:46 Stack trace: #0 /etc/inc/functions.inc(32): require_once() #1 /etc/inc/notices.inc(24): require_once('/etc/inc/functi...') #2 /etc/inc/config.inc(49): require_once('/etc/inc/notice...') #3 /etc/rc.banner(24): require_once('/etc/inc/config...') #4 {main} thrown in /etc/inc/certs.inc on line 46
I've tried to:
- Console =>Reset to factory defaults (4) => Doesn't seem to work
- Console =>Restore recent configuration (15) => Doesn't seem to work
- Tried holding the reset button for 30s when booting => Doesn't seem to work
So did I really brick my pfSense after 2 days? What else can I do to get it going again?
Grtz

Hmm, looks like it's pulled in some bad files or the ones that are there are damaged.
Quickest thing there if you have a backup of the config, or can easily recreate it, is to open a ticket with us at: https://go.netgate.com
We can get you the reinstall image and instructions.

Stephen,
I don't have an account on https://go.netgate.com
Did not purchase a support subscription, am I supposed to be able to create support tickets without?
Where else can I find the reinstall image and instructions? I
I did create a backup of the config, but I'm not sure that's enough, as most options in console don't work anymore. The backup file is named 'config-pfsense.hostname-20190415140927.xml'. How can I restore that?
Thanks

You can open a ticket for firmware requests.
