      Hello what would you suggest would be more benifitial for a fully loaded pfsense server with vpn and firewall

      Dual Hex Core @2.93 GHZ
      or
      Dual Quad Core @3.46 GHZ

            What sort of bandwidth do you have available?

            But yeah hard to imagine a situation where 8 cores is insufficient and some things, like OpenVPN, are single threaded where speed counts.

                Ah, well you won't fill that with a single OpenVPN connection using either but that does mean you will see the benefit of the faster clock speed. I would choose the faster Quad Core setup between those.
                If OpenVPN is your primary driver though there are probably better choices. Single thread performance is all. Or run multiple tunnels.

                  @stephenw10 what do you think 8 cores will be good up to e.g if I upgrade to a faster speed until when will it be not enough

                    Not sure I understand the question... 8 cores will likely be sufficient, in terms of number of cores, for whatever you might do.

                    Either of those will be more than enough for firewall/NAT at 1Gbps. OpenVPN will be by far your largest user of CPU cycles if you're using that.
