fresh pfSense install randomly hangs on boot
-
I've installed a fresh pfSense 2.4.4 memstick amd64 UEFI install on my Qotom Q575G6. Everything works like a charm, but after halt or reboot the system hangs here:
The system log only shows:

I also did a fresh install again, same problem. Any idea?
-
It maybe a corrupted install file. When downloading validate the integrity of the downloaded file (checksum MD5)? Prior to installing.
-
Is it actually not booting or potentially just a console issue?
-
It is not booting! I can't connect to the pfSense at all. Right now it happened again, after I halted the system and started it again. The log shows it hung at same point:

Are the firmware errors normal?
I noticed it failed to load rc, and then went into single user mode.
Are the errors in the boot loader normal?
-
I don't know. Never realized them. I've not installed the serial version and will see if this helps.

Who is this
Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 2222.
Port 2222 ?
On a 'default' pfSense no process is listening on port 2222. -
Mmm, it has bad ACPI tables which can cause problems with power. Make sure you have the latest BIOS on there.

@Gertjan said in fresh pfSense install randomly hangs on boot:
Who is this
Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 2222.
Port 2222 ?
On a 'default' pfSense no process is listening on port 2222.This is my SSH port. I changed it.
I'm having the latest BIOS on it. Should I disable ACPI on pfSense?
Or is there something in BIOS I should change?
-
ACPI disabled completely is usually very bad on modern hardware. You might be able to get back the functionality though some of those settings. I can't really say though.
Steve
-
Well everything seems to work fine. I don‘t know which setting I should use.
-
'Enable ACPI Auto Configuration' doesn't seem like a terrible place to start. Never tried that personally though.

I’ve now asked the manufactor for a new BIOS. Thanks for your support. I will let you guys know.
-
Did you ever get an upgraded bios file for the Q575G6?
-
Unfortunately no but the problem disappeared. Maybe it was something else I don't know.
