Internal DNS resolution on pfsense box
-
Hi,
MY first post - Have been using pfSense for a vouple of weeks now. Its a great product, and way faster and more reliable than my previous - Smoothwall.
I have a Server 2003 environment which provides DNS name resolution, everything is fine. WAN interface is PPPoE with external DNS resolution via my ISP.
The problem I have is that i have installed Lightsquid for web useage reporting and it doesnt resolve the local IP addresses in the reports. The only was i've found is to manually edit the /etc/resolve.conf file and change it to my internal Server 2003 DNS server.
It's working, but i'm not entirely happy doing it this way, im not a DNS expert, so would welcome any feedback.
I have got my internal DNS server set-up to point to my Windows DNS server in SYSTEM - GENERAL SETUP page.
Thanks,
Dean

130+ views and no suggestions?

If you uncheck the box right under the DNS server entries in General Setup (Allow DNS server list to be overridden by DHCP/PPP on WAN) you should get the behaviour you want. I also assume you've got the DNS forwarder disabled and are just using DHCP to set the proper internal DNS server for your clients?

ktims,
Thanks for that it's working fine now. Although I really like pfSense, I do find it a little lacking in documentation.

not lacking in doc, but you lazy to search the forum. We've discuss this many time before….

Well i wouldn't consider a forum as a form of documentation…
@deanflyer: If there is something you think needs documentation:
