Cable internet + Digital tv question

  • Hi,

I have a question regarding my setup which is as follows for the moment:
                      –------------
                      | Modem  |
                        -------------
                              |
                      ----------------
                      | Eth Switch |-------------Digital TV box
                        ---------------
                          |
                      --------------
                      |  PfSense  |
                      --------------
                          |            |
                        LAN      WLAN

So my cable modem has on ethernet connection going to an ethernet switch. On that switch I go to the WAN NIC of my pfsense box, plus to my Digital TV box. My Digital TV box receives an internet address as well. The ethernet on my Digital TV box is only used for the digital tv guide, firmware upgrades and in case I rent movies some data is sent back and forth as well. (so the digital video/audio stream goes over a separate cable connection).

Now I would like to remove the switch from this setup (to make the setup cleaner and to save 17Watts on electricity) and add an extra NIC on my PFsense box. I can't put the digital tv box on the LAN since it requires an internet address. So something like this:

    --------------
                      | Modem  |
                        -------------
                              |
                      ----------------
                      | Pfsense    |-------------Digital TV box
                        ---------------
                          |            |
                        LAN      WLAN

Is this possible to setup? if so: how? Bridging the Digital TV NIC with my WAN nic?

My apologies for my lousy drawing skills...

    Best regards,
    Jan
