If you have an M.2 E key slot will an A/E key M.2 adapter be recognized when inserted in the E slot? It will fit in the slot, but pin-outs are different and carrier adapter is supposed to read both wifi and Bluetooth data when populated... does A/E mean it will be seen in an A or E or A/E slot or only an A/E slot?

Which slot on which device are you trying to use? What are you trying to use in it?

The factory E slot on a Gigabyte Z390 itx wifi which supports an Intel 9560NGW. Connector Interface: NGFF Key E (M2:CNVio). I cannot use the Intel Card as it will not be recognized by the future installed OS.

Ah, so no Netgate hardware here?

The A/E M.2 keying means it can fit in either an A or E keyed slot. But it really deppends what that slow is wired for. They don't have to be wired for everything listed:
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2#Form_factors_and_keying

A wifi+bluetooth combo card will likely be wired for PCIe and USB though.
