I want to installed pfSense in our college here 100-150 user access internet through WiFi on the phone. Our goal is only register user access the WiFi network. We decide that want to use Ubiquiti AP and here the campus area to large. so we have calculate at least 40pcs Ubiquiti AP must be need to cover the campus area.
I have not depth knowledge about pfSense. So any body help how to setup the whole network or have any Tutorial video?
which pfSense box can handle my network smoothly? Please refer.
Why do you have that ZT router and pfSense?
@JKnott I ready a setup for test purpose here WAN Net comming from Zte mf 29 which have 4G connection. That's why i have use. I have also notice my LAN net indicate Internet Connection But no webpage loading. I am not use any rules.
WAN IP 192.168.0.100
LAN IP 10.10.10.10
not use DNS Server. In that case need DNS server settings?
WAN IP 192.168.0.100
I see your WAN address is in one of the RFC 1918 blocks. There's a setting "Block private networks and loopback addresses" on the WAN page that must not be selected. Is it?
I can't think of any reason for only one site to work, other than a specific outgoing rule that allows only that site. What do you see if you run trace route to various other sites?
@JKnott Need to configuration DNS Server?
Previous Discuss pfsense firewall want to use at college campus for WiFi access. Can you tell me, which model will be good for my requirements?
No, I'm not in a position to recommend a model. I run pfSense on a refurbished computer and have no connection with pfSense except as a user.
What site doesn't work? What actual error do you see?
Can you ping whatever IP it resolves to?
@Asit-Kumar-Manna 100-150 users over wifi on their phones, let's see... Here's what I would do with that.
You're going to need the Ubiquity access points, like you already said. I would get the cloud controller for sure. That will make managing these really easy. You will need POE switches to power these, and some spares ready to go in case of a switch failure. What kind of network size are you doing - is this in a couple of buildings, or over a large campus? I see you say college campus, but is it really big? You're going to need to wire up (most likely fiber runs) all the access point locations/drops back to your firewall somehow, if it isn't already done.
The pfsense box I would use would be at least the XG-71001U, and depending on how critical the network is, maybe even the HA (2x 71001U) dual option.
