Hello. I'm going to be building a Pfsense 1U box and I've done extensive reading but trying to find a motherboard compatible with 2.4.4. I tried once but after ordering the board I found out it wasn't Free BSD compatible so I ended up making that one a Plex server. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. I've looked at Supermicro boads but their OS compatibility chart seems to stop at Free BSD version 11 or 11.1 and I don't want to assume it will work on 11.2 which is what pfsense runs on I believe.

Can anyone recommend a mini-itx board? A lot of manufacturers say they don't guarantee anything outside of Windows compatibility. I will be using Nord VPN and have gigabit speed. I'm ok with Intel processor but I also see a lot of people running Atom as well. I stream tons of data. I just want it to be able to handle it all as fast as possible with room to add other plug-ins like Snort. Again I just don't want to make the same mistake again

      Thanks in advance.

You want Gigabit OpenVPN? You will need a fairly fast CPU and you would still need to combine multiple VPNs if so.

@stephenw10 Any suggestion on compatible mobo? I can deal picking processor. Just trying to get an idea as to what Intel motherboard people are running that is compatible with pfsense. I don't have to have full gigabit. I know there will be some loss in speed.

Generally speaking most things should work. If something works with FreeBSD 11.1 it will almost certainly work with 11.2 or 11.3 (or 12). The sort of regression that would prevent that is very unusual.
Brand new hardware may require FreeBSD 12 for example or even not be supported at all so it's better to use stuff that has been around for a while in most cases.

I don't have any specific recommendations though.
