      If I were to use pfsense, would the computer which the ISO is in need to be on 24/7?

        If you are running pfsense on hardware as your router then you would need to keep it powered on as long as you needed it to work as a router.

        Triggering snowflakes one by one..

          The ISO is only needed during install. However, the computer that's running pfSense needs to be on whenever you want to access the Internet. So, you can boot it up and shutdown as needed or leave it up 24/7. Your choice.

          i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.

            Thanks. I've got a computer here which I'll shove in my server room with pfSense running 24/7
