i've been reading a lot about setting up squid with hapv and there isn't a whole lot of documentation out there that i've found but what i HAVE found keeps referring to the sandwich setup

is this possible with pfsense?  if so how hard is it? has anyone done it?

this is one of the sites i've read about it for reference

Another reference I found on this is: http://havp.hege.li/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11

Currently, I have it running with squid having a single parent of HAVP.

But, it should be possible to do the sandwich.  Possibly by adding the necessary configuration changes into the squid "custom options"?  If anyone has an idea of the right way to do this with pfSense, I would like to know also.

when you set it up like that does it work transparent to your users or do you have to set each browser to use the proxy

Just clarification.  I use squid with a parent proxy of HAVP.  And, at current, that is set up to be transparent proxy.
