Build Guidance

Hello,
I have a Qnap that I use as a server, I'm a retoucher so I use it for clients to upload and download project files. I was recently hacked, not sure how, but it had something to do with the Qnap. Regardless, I want to setup a better system to prevent, thwart future attempts.
Given this is all in my home I don't need to go over board, but I would like to utilize as much of my WAN speed as possible. I have Fios and I get roughly 925up and 850 down.
Seeing as I'm new to the Pfsense software, I'm looking for some advice on a good, m but reasonable hardware setup might be.
Thank you in advance for your help!

What service are you actually opening on the QNAP device? One thing that will immediately increase security would be to restrict port forwards to an alias of known external source IPs. That may not be practical in your situation, I don't know.
Out SG-3100 would do well in that situation. The SG-5100 would be better of you plan to run packages such as Snort/Suricata or pfBlocker.
