Changing IP LAN address question
-
I have implemented pfSense, which I am testing. It is on a separate subnet from my router (Netgear C7100V with Comcast). Pfsense is 192.168.1.1 and my Comcast router is 192.168.0.1. Because I have 50+ devices assigned to 192.168.0.x and I do not want to go through them all to change their IP addresses, what is the best way to implement pfSense for all those devices? Thanks.

if you want to put pfsense in the middle, change the ip of your router to something else and change the ip of the lan of pfsense to 192.168.0.1
the best would be to put the netgear c7100v to bridge mode so pfsense will get the isp address directly, if it's possible with comcast

Do those devices have static or DHCP addresses? If DHCP, their addresses should change automagically.

@kiokoman Thank you!

@JKnott Thanks. Many of the devices do have fixed IP addresses.

@kiokoman So, my version of Netgear C7100V does not have that option to put the modem in bridge mode. There is no option under Advanced Setup for NAT.

then change the ip of the router,
i don't have comcast and i don't know that netgear router, maybe you need to update the firmware -

One thing many people do is map an IP address to a specific MAC. This way the device will always have the same address. I do that with all my devices, other than my desktop computer and pfSense computer, which have static addresses.

@kiokoman Thanks. Comcast pushes out the firmware and as far as I know, I have the latest firmware for the device to be used with Comcast. This is what I did: 1) Set pfSense to 192.168.0.1 and DHCP; 2) Set Netgear C7100V to 192.168.2.1 and DHCP to get the WAN address for pfSense. As @JKnott suggested, IP addresses were assigned by pfSense. I now just need to reserve addresses for a bunch that I think need to be reserved.
