        get_date_default_timezone_get() is build into PHP.

        When I create a file like (/root/test.php) :

        <?php

        echo date_default_timezone_get();

        ?>

        and I execute it like

        php -q /root/test.php

        It returns :

        Europe/Paris

        which is the correct answer.

        This works for me .....

        Try the thing that always helps : upgrade - although you might be in troubles already : core PHP files are missing or unreadable. Be prepared for a re install if needed.

        Edit : and where are the logs ??

          I'd say that looks like some kind of filesystem corruption (best case) or hardware issue (disk, RAM, etc)

          I'd start by taking a backup and reinstalling. If it's stable after that, it was probably just a filesystem issue.
