first installation of PfSense ever: what hardware do you suggest?
-
Hi all,
I have to create a site-to-site VPN and I would like to use OpenVPN over pfSenseUnfortunately I never used pfSense and I would first know if I can install pfSense over a normal PC: is it possible or is there some special HW requirement?
after that, I would install pfSense via ISO image on that HW (without any other OS already installed) following this guide:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/installing-pfsense.html
a question: at the end of the procedure there is the step "Connect to the GUI and launch the setup wizard": what I perform with that step?
at the end of every steps I will have the HW ready to install openVPN and create the VPN site-to-site, right?
thanks to all!

you can use a normal pc, preferably with 2 INTEL network card to use for WAN and LAN
at the end of installation the default LAN ip is 192.168.1.1 WAN is dhcp, so you take another PC connect to the LAN and with your preferred browser go to https://192.168.1.1 and follow the instruction, it ask for basic stuff like new password, if you want to change LAN subnet / what is your WAN etc etc... at the end it will reload and you are ready to configure openvpn that is already available in the GUI of pfSense under the VPN menu -
@kiokoman thanks!
