How do you restore the original mac address of an interface after spoofing?
-
Hi,
I recently ran into an issue where I thought getting a new IP address from my WAN would possibly fix it. I first tried releasing and relinquishing the lease through the interfaces status menu, then renewing. That didn't work, so I released the lease again, I spoofing the mac address of the WAN interface, and tried again. No dice. It never gets a dhcp reply and keeps the 0.0.0.0 address.I go back into the interfaces menu and clear the custom mac address and reapply the settings. I did a release and renew again, and still nothing. I notice that the status page for the interface still says it's using the same mac address as the custom mac I had set. I've rebooted, still nothing. I've tried using another mac address, and still nothing. I even booted into a WinPE disk and tried to install technitium mac address changer but it wouldn't run in a PE. As a last resort, I went into windows and applied a spoof there, and then unapplied it hoping it would set it back to the original mac. It looks like it changed it, but I'm not sure if it's the original mac. It still won't get an IP from the ISP.
I've went and hooked my laptop up and I'm able to get an IP. I went and put another network card in the firewall box, and set the wan interface to use that. Now I'm able to get an IP.
Does anyone know how I can see the original hardware id of that interface before it was spoofed?
