Hi! I'm trying to use a serial GPS with my pfsense box which only has a single serial port. Unfortunately pfSense keeps stealing the port for the serial console. I've tried commenting out the offending lines in /etc/ttys and /etc/gettytab but is there a (official) way to disable this that will survive reboots?

    Thanks!

Does the system have a VGA console? If so, the serial console can be disabled from System > Advanced, on the Admin Access tab.

If the system only has a serial console and only one serial port, then you can't disable the serial console since you must have at least one console.

It doesn't have VGA, but it does have HDMI (which I use for emergency console purposes). There's no option to disable serial on that page for me, unfortunately.

For all intents and purposes, HDMI is still a "VGA" (video) console. If you installed from a serial memstick, that might explain what you are seeing. You may need to reinstall using a regular memstick.
