pfBlockerNG MaxMind Registration required to continue to use the GeoIP functionality!

Yup, 2.3.4 is ancient but you should still see packages available. You will not see a current pfBlocker package there though.
I assume you are also not seeing a pfSense update offered? You are probably hitting this:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/upgrade-troubleshooting.html#upgrade-not-offered-library-errorsConsider installing 2.4.5 clean and restoring your config into it. That will get past all those problems.

Hello,
I've just installed pfblocker and wanted to utilize the GeoIP list provided by Maxmind too. However, I can see that the license is provided to those owning businesses or/and private companies and that it's not destined for home users. Therefore, upon reading the ''terms of use'' I decided to hold back as at teh end of the day I wouldn't want to do anything illegal...
My question is has anyone of you used the license for personal / home use?
Many thanks
-
Where exactly are you reading that?

Before creating an account with Maxmind you have to accept the terms and conditions. It's right in there.

This?: https://www.maxmind.com/en/geolite2/eula
That's what appears to apply here and I'm not seeing those references there. My find function may be broken....

Yes that's it.
If I understood those wrong, what did you respond to the relevant questions? -
What questions exactly?
The word business only appears once there an it doesn't in any way seem to prevent home users.
Of course IANAL....Steve

Where exactly are you reading that home users can not use it?
Where it asks for company when you create your account - just put in homeuse

I'm fairly sure it was asking for the type of business you hold along with basic personal details. All options on the drop down menu were business related, with no allowance for home users which is what I am. That obviously held me back from obtaining a license so wondering what option you may have selected to remain legitimate.

Other than my email - this is the only thing they have about me in that account
here was the lasttime lic was used to grab update

Thank you for this. Thanks for the screenshot. I will have another look when I'm home.

Yeah that looks much more like data analytics than a license requirement. To me at least.

Just because this reminded me of the nonsense this is about geoip and trying to remove IPs from it..
On their do not sell list.. You see for example that one IP - so yes they pulled it from their database... But if that location info was even somewhat accurate - where do you think that .174 address would be located ;)
GeoIP locations are far from complete or accurate to be honest..
But I can for sure look up who owns that IP, and where they use it..
22 63 ms 59 ms 59 ms be-299-rar01.santaclara.ca.sfba.comcast.net [68.86.143.94] 23 61 ms 60 ms 61 ms po-1-rur01.sfpine.ca.sfba.comcast.net [68.87.193.134] 24 60 ms 60 ms 63 ms be-11-sur03.sfpine.ca.sfba.comcast.net [68.87.226.54] 25 61 ms 60 ms 67 ms hu-0-6-0-0-sur04.sfpine.ca.sfba.comcast.net [68.85.86.94] 26 * * * Request timed out.
Hmmm I wonder what actual area that IP is in ;) Maybe it really is in Virgina??? <rolleyes> I don't even need the IP to answer from trace.. Just need to get anywhere somewhere close via region.
The whole nonsense of removing IPs from a db of where they are located could only be done if every single IP was only stored exactly, not in any way summarized in netblocks, and were actually possible to use them anywhere.. But sorry you can't use a.b.c.X in CA and then use a.b.c.Y in NY ;)
Well I guess technically you could get close with really small netblocks ;) But the routing tables would be insane! ;)

@stephenw10
Hey guys.Just tried again and the dropdown selection is mandatory, not optional.
-
Yup, because they want to know who is using their services.

My problem is there's nothing relevant that I could use out of that dropdown options - nothing that applies to actual ''home use''.
I might just be overcautious in the end :)
-
If they don't provide an 'other' option then what else can you do.
