Installed pfsense last week on a 5 year old AMD. Was working great, until it wasn't. PC was "ticking" when I went to check on it, popped the case open and nasty burnt smell from the processor area. No boot, no post.

This happened less than 10 mins after I had set up a guest Lan (not vlan) on igb3 and set a rule to pass to vpn. To be clear the burn is not coming from the network card. I hope the ssds are ok so I can put them in another box...

Is it even possible to cause a meltdown with bad rules?

      Cheers

Indeed, there is no way to cause a hardware problem with firewall rules.

          That is an ex-motherboard!

Thanks, I really didn't think so but thought possible a loop might spike CPU and leave it at 100. New mobo it is. Cheers

Yeah looks like that. I've decided to try and figure out HA in VMs on unraid... just for fun. One is working perfectly, now on to the HA setup :) cheers.
