Suggestion about load balanced multiwan and Captive Portal.
-
Good morning to you all :)
I was wondering if you can help me out on choosing a pfsense version .
I want to provide free internet access to a friends coffee shop.
Up until now I have set up a 1.2.2 installation with captive portal using one ADSL line and it works just fine.
Recently he has acquired a second ADSL line.
All i need is to load balance these two lines and have the captive portal working.
The captive portal uses local authentication. I dont need VPN, or content filtering or anything else.
Just load balancing with captive portal.
Do you think i should use a 1.2.3 snapshot or a 2.0 alpha snapshot?
As i have read the load balancing "mechanism" has been replaced on 2.0 aplha versions
http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,10407.0.html
As for the "wan" interfaces themselves i have read here:
http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Multi_WAN_/_Load_Balancing
that they have to be in dhcp mode in order to work.
I am guessing that they could work in static mode too.Right?? :-\ (what about pppoe? At least one of them…)Sorry for these many questions...
Best regards... :) -
Do not use 2.0 alpha in production.

Search the forums especially the one that are for reporting problems to find how to enable CP on 1.2.3 and multiwan.

I think ermal is referring to this post http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,13844.0.html
Maybe I should add it to fit123 package. -
Thanx for the info guys ;)
I have installed the RC1 and got load balance working, but captive portal was not working.
The login page would not show.
If i enter http://pfsenseip:8000 i can see the login page and proceed from then on normally.
If i disable the captive portal everything works OK, but the captive portal is a must and i need it.
Besides this how can i apply this

to a 1.2.3 installation?REgards.. :)
