      Hello to everyone,
I'm here to ask for information before updating from 2.4.4 to 2.4.5-RC, many people advise to remove the installed packages before updating to avoid problems, but I wanted to know if the settings of the various packages will be saved .
In pfBlockerNG-devel there is the option keep settings but in other packages it is not present.
My packages are Snort, pfBlockerNG-devel, Avahi, Ntopng and freeradius3.
      Thanks.

Unless a package has an option to remove its settings, they are retained automatically. That option is the exception, not the standard.

I think only Snort, Suricata, and pfBlockerNG have that option, so verify your setting for that option in those.

Both Snort and Suricata will, by default, retain user settings even when the package is removed. As @jimp mentioned, there is an optional checkbox on the GLOBAL SETTINGS tab for each package that will let you optionally uncheck that "Save Settings" parameter so that the configuration settings are removed with the package. Typicallly you would only uncheck this setting if you wanted to restart the configuration from scratch or if you were permanently removing the package and wanted settings cleared as well.

Thanks. I use Pf blocker, when the next update will be available, do I need to remove and re-install this package?

If you are going from 2.4.4-p3 to 2.4.5, probably not. It's always safer to remove packages before you upgrade, but it isn't strictly necessary.

                  Thanks a lot.
I have spread to many people how good Pfsense is.
                  Fantastic product.

One question, when uninstalling pfBlockerNG-devel with the keep settings option turned on, are the lists of dnsbl and ip also kept?
                    Thanks.

I am not the pfBlockerNG package maintainer. That would be @BBcan177 over in the pfBlocker sub-forum under Packages. However, I suspect those lists would be maintained so long as you are not using a RAM disk.

The downloaded lists may not be. Those options are to retain the package config in the main config file.

If you restored the config those lists would be re-downloaded anyway.

                          Steve
