      Hi
I am having issues with speeds being limited on some WiFi devices. This happens at random times of the day, mostly noticable at night, but not on all devices.
Example: my Android phone and another Android phone and a Chromecast will have very slow download speeds ranging from around 15Mb down to less than 1Mb (online speed tested), slow enough for streaming videos not to play. The Upload speeds will be at the limit by my ISP of around 20Mb, so not affected.
Other devices such as a Linux HP Laptop and a Surface Pro 3 speeds are not affected (70Mb-90Mb), these were Tested at the same time I'm having issues on the other devices.
      This happens randomly.

I have set no rules to slow down traffic, just a basic install with a couple of firewall rules and separate Lans.

I have had the same setup for about a year and over the past 2 to 3 weeks this has been happening.
      Its becoming very frustrating.

Thanks for reading and any help would be greatly appreciated.

You really think a radio connection is always 'as fast as advertised' ?
If you could 'see' all the radio signals used by your devices you would be choecked, and asking right away : how can this actually still be working ?

When you do speed test comparisons, always use cable connections. Or place your devices in a non radio "Faraday Cage".

And before you ask : no, pfSense has no list with IP's that should be 'limited' ones in a while.

Edit : and where are the logs ??

@Gertjan I know the speeds are never as advised. I don't think your getting the problem I'm facing.
          Thanks for replying anyway.

Well, I'm pretty sure that is the case.
My 'Wifi/radio' talk is what can happen.
Keep in mind that nothing in your problem description allows readers to pin-point the real cause of the problem.
So I mentioned a most known cause.

@Gertjan Yes possibly it is the radios, but I have 3 neighbors near me so not a lot of interference.
The thing is it will be fast but then next second it will be slow but it only on specific devices.
I have fiber which is normally fairly stable, so I don't think the ISP is at fault and the fact that it's only affecting some devices some of the time even if I'm right next to the access point, is strange, and it's only changed the last 2 weeks or so. Maybe it's the access point and not pfsense, that probably makes more sense.

How are your wired devices doing? There is no difference to pfSense between a device connected by Ethernet or WiFi. Also, given that some wireless devices don't have a problem, that pretty much rules out anything on your network.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
                UniFi AC-Lite access point

                I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

@JKnott Yes wired devices are fine also, unaffected. The only things affected are wireless devices and only a couple. Im leaning towards the access point, I'm going to swap it out and see what happens.
