PFSense for home use with old hardware
-
Hi Guys
My router recently packed up and I'm not really looking to spend much money on hardware, I was wondering if the below spaces would suffice for a medium sized family of 13
core 2 quad Q8400 2.6Ghz CPU 4 core 4 threads
8gb DDR 1333mhz ram dual-channel
120gb ssd
Asrock g41m Vs3 mobo
I managed to source 2 x 1gb nics and a small 8port 1gb switchI have 13 mobile devices 5 laptops and 3 desktops pcs and 1 file server running on a 50/50MBPS fiber internet
I wont run many packages besides a firewall and dhcp service and guest wifi
will the above mentioned system be sufficient for my household
my old router was an Asus AC1200 wireless router which ran easily and could support all devices on wifi as well as my 4 HDR survelane cameras

@Lutha Pretty over powered but it's paid for. You should have no problem as long as capacitors and such are in good order. Will eat quite a bit of power.

Yeah, that hardware will barely notice 50Mbps. You could easily put all of it in a VPN. And run packages.
The only downside is they are power hungry and hence often loud. It will be quite old as well so reliability could be a factor.
