So first I am a pfsense newbie (I've set it up and used it a few times but it has been years so I'm going to call myself a noob)
I've got some old hardware I was planning on repurposing into a firewall for my home lab (so I can stop taking the internet down for the family)

As the subject says I'm not getting an IP on my wan interface, I've booted the hardware with a ubuntu live disk and it works fine but not so much for PF sense, it detects the interface comming up happily but won't get an IP from dhcp.

      Hardware
      Intel E3-1225
Gigabyte GA-Z77N (2 x Realtek GbE LAN chip)
also some ram and a hdd but I don't think that will affect anything.

      Using PFsense 2.4.5

I am expecting to get an IP in the 10.20.20.XXX range from my router, and I really have no idea where to start debugging this ... help

Are you sure you have the NICs assigned correctly? Perhaps the interface you think is plugged into WAN is really a different one?

That's the easiest way to explain the behavior you're observing.

I am 100% sure I had them assigned correctly (tested and re-tested it 2 dozen times) I think it was a driver issue, I've switched to OPNsense and it worked immediately
