Bricked SG2440
-
Hi All, I'm trying to see if there's anything I can do with this old fw so i can try and get the old config off it. I've replaced it now (since it died on us last week)... I've plugged the power in and I get two red lights. I've plugged the console in an tried to connect putty to it with baud of 115200 but I get no response and nothing on the screen. Anything else that can be done?

As for the hardware, you can submit a ticket to Netgate and see if they will do a hardware replacement. The service desk has been very helpful when I've had issues with these boxes. You don't need a current service agreement to submit a hardware ticket.
As for the config, if you had an msata in the box, you should be able to remove it and put it in another box to pull off the config. If you had it loading on the onboard flash, you may be out of luck- you'd have to check with support. -
Yes, unfortunately it's almost impossible to get data from the eMMC if the board has failed completely.
The one thing you might try is resetting the NVRAM. That presents in the same way, Coreboot fails to POST, the status LED remains red.
To reset the NVRAM on the SG-series desktop model follow these steps:
Remove power from the system.
Remove the case and orient the system with the Ethernet ports facing you.
Locate the NVRAM reset jumper located just the left of the CPU heatsink.
On early models it is labelled J8, on later models it is labelled J10. Only one of the two will have pins and the jumper present.
Move the jumper from pins 1 & 2 to pins 2 & 3.
Power the system on. The STATUS and SATA LEDs will light briefly then go out.
Remove power, move the jumper back to it's original position and reattach the case. That was a more common issue when those boards were introduced but subsequent Coreboot updates pretty much eliminated it. You have nothing to lose by trying it though.
