Splitting VLAN in 3
-
Hi All, I recently suffered a trashed netgate and lost all our config. We bought a new box and we're back up but we're struggling a bit with out guest wifi setup.
Previously I know that we essentially had 3 sets of wifi guests all handled by the Netgate in VLAN103.First we had our captive portal with a voucher code system
Second we had employees who got to use the wifi at lunchtimes
Third we had known users with MAC address based reservations. What I don't understand is how to differentiate between the 3 sets of users. We have almost decided to move the captive portal and voucher code system to our Wifi controller but IP addresses will be issued by the PFSense since I want the network to be segregated....
Unfortunately we don't have an up to date copy of the config prior to the failure...
I have one from 2016 which isn't much use but I can see a schedule setup and applied to a different VLAN but I can't see how a user can connect to a WIFI network on a VLAN (103) and be given an IP address that belongs to a different network... I have to admit to being a complete loss.
Can anyone shed any light on how this might have been setup before or perhaps an idea of what we could do instead?thanks in advance,
Paul.

Did you have 3 SSIDs? If so, it's just a matter of assigning them to 3 different VLANs.

@JKnott Hi, no sorry just the one - MEL-PUBLIC...

Then you don't need VLANs. If you only have 1 SSID then you can use the native LAN. Perhaps the 3 methods put the various users into 3 address groups. If so, it would be possible to filter on IP address.
