Print to device in another network
-
I have an internal network, and a (protected) guest network. My network-connected printer is in the guest network. The print drivers on my internal network seem to look for the printer on the local segment, so don't find it. I'd like an IP in my internal network that forwards to the printer in the guest network, so it "appears" to be on the local network. Is that a port forward, a 1:1 NAT, or something else? Thanks!

Hi,
What about re installing the same printer on your device using the correct IP this time ?
If you use your device on LAN1 like 192.168.1.0/24- and the printer is on LAN2 like 192.168.2.0/24, your device would find and work with the printer, no matter on what network it is connected.
Routing will work automatically.
Firewall rules on LAN1 need to accept traffic from LAN1 going to LAN2, the printer. -
At layer 3, you're right. It appears that the print drivers scan the local network at layer 2 looking for the printer, so while I could easily create ACLs (they are actually in place now), the systems on the "inside" network don't find the printer on the guest network. Thanks
