Re: Intel vs. Realtek: What’s up?

I created that original topic three years ago. It was because I could not get my Zotac dual-Ethernet fanless PC sporting Realtek NICs to work. One of the two NICs was dead. When I installed Windows on that box, it performed fine.

I have since installed a Netgate SG-1100, which came with pfSense 2.4.5 installed. However, I wanted to give the Zotac box another try, and, lo and behold, it works. I think, the last version I tried using with the Zotac was prior to 2.3.4. Obviously, support for the Realtek NICs has been improved, if not fixed.

I‘d still try to avoid Realtek. ;-)

Working fine for me for a few years but nothing professionally...

@Pippin: In my case it would be for home use. Problem was that I purchased that fanless PC before realizing that it would pose a problem. I was pleasantly surprised that the problem had gone away in the meantime.

I am also wondering, whether Intel NICs carry a licensing premium.
