HA, one physical, one VM, with LACP question
-
Hi. Currently we run pfSense in HA on two virtual machines, Hyper-V. I'd like to build the primary pfSense box on hardware though. Now, in the virtual environment, we have LACP teams setup for redundancy mostly. I have three virtual nics in the VMs and the virtual switches they each connect to, are bound to a LACP team thats managed from the Windows Hyper-V machines. So in this case pfSense sees only three nics and has no knowledge of the LACP teams.
When I want one physical machine, I'd have to build the LACP on pfSense level. from https://forum.netgate.com/topic/32583/ha-setup-non-identical-hardware I found the NIC count should be equal. Does that account for LACP teams as well? If on the physical box I create three LACP teams, each with two nics, does that account for 3 or 6 NICs from HA perspective?
I'd rather not install a hypervisor on the machine that will be dedicated to pfSense. While hardly measurable, every hypervisor would consume a tiny bit of resources, which I want to avoid if possible.Any insights?
