I'm actually running 2.4.5 on my main system with no issues. However, I wanted to install it to a laptop I've been using for testing. The first time I was unable to boot I thought nothing of it. Decided it was a bad usb stick and just went to the next one. Same! Went through 5 different sticks, even went and bought a new one. Still no luck! Went through the BIOS options a few times, googled, followed the diskpart stick preparation on Netgate Docs, tried Win32 Disk Imager, instead of Rufus, and almost gave up. Remembered I had booted to several older versions and found a 2.4.4 image, which wrote to one random stick of the ones that had failed with 2.4.5, and voila it booted right away.

Any ideas what's the issue here?

Use Etcher, not Rufus, though that probably isn't the problem. It may be a difference in the base OS and how it boots. Usually a BIOS option for UEFI or Legacy boot will work around that kind of difference.

I'm already running 2.4.5. on that machine, which updated from 2.4.4. However, tried again with the 2.4.5. image and Etcher and still fails to boot. Tried Legacy and UEFI, although it's an old laptop that gives and warning that the UEFI mode is experimental and not fully supported. Yet, 2.4.4. still boots in either mode. Strange!
