I had been under the impression that post 2.2 the standard serial speed for pfSense was 115200 N81. I just upgraded (painfully) from 2.4.4 to 2.4.5-RELEASE-p1 on a Netgate APU and find that this pfSense image (pfSense-CE-memstick-serial-2.4.5-RELEASE-p1-amd64.img) has the serial console set to 9600 N81.

Now I have a challenge. I cannot figure out how to get the iPxe firmware on the Netgate appliance or the pfSense installation to change and save their serial port speed. I don't really care which one changes, I just want one serial setting that will allow me to connect consistently from boot to run.

Can anyone tell me how to change the serial console speed in the Netgate firmware OR in pfSense such that the change will persist across reboots?

      Many thanks.
      David

The default speed on the installer image and after is 115200, but you might have 9600 stored in your config.xml. Check under System > Advanced, Admin Access tab, at the bottom in the console section.

As for the speed in the APU BIOS, that should always have been 115200 as well, especially if you bought it from Netgate. To change that you'd have to go into the APU BIOS, directions for entering that should be printed at the start of the boot process.
