Help me understand traffic graphs

This graph screenshot was taken right after running a Speedtest through The speed test first tests the download speed, followed by the upload speed.

On my WAN graph, I see a spike for inbound traffic, followed by a spike for outbound traffic. This is what I would expect when testing download followed by upload.

On my LAN graph (labeled here as trusted) however, I see that the download test gets recorded as outbound traffic, and the upload test gets labeled as inbound traffic.

Why are these inverted? Should they not match up? Do I have something configured incorrectly, or am I just not understanding how traffic flow is graphed?

Incoming WAN traffic gets pushed out of LAN to your PC.

  • Well when you put it like that, it's so obvious. Thank you!
