check_reload_status Could not connect to /var/run/php-fpm.socket
-
Hello Everyone,
Pfsense Version : 2.4.5 Packages installed : Freeradius, Sudo, Cron OpenVPNclient, MailReport Issue faced : My log is filled with check_reload_status Could not connect to /var/run/php-fpm.socket
Users are unable to login from LAN. Get the following error :
Gateway 502 not found nginx
The box is unreponsive even via VPN.
The only way to solve the issue is to reboot the device.
I have gone through previous threads but nothing seems to work. It is happening every alternate day and has become a pain in the neck. The issue has appeared after an upgrade to 2.4.5.Any pointer,
Regards,
Ashima -

If noting works, the console is your last resort.
Most things work, the GUI might help.
The very last thing to 'admin' : the VPN access (the slightest error will throw you out).Btw :
check_reload_status Could not connect to /var/run/php-fpm.socket
PHP says what in the logs ? If it can't start it will complain.

@Gertjan , Thank you for responding.
I am not near console. I access the device remotely using vpn.
I am not very sure where php logs are created. Is it in
/var/log/nginx/error.logI have attached a copy of this log in case that's the one.
error.txtLooking at the log, I guess this error started appearing on
2020/07/19 22:39:10.I think we started facing the issue sometime during that time. ( I am not very sure.)
Please help.

Intermediate solution : activate SSH and you have SSH access (install Putyy if you have windows, MAC have a build in SSH client).

/var/log/nginx/error.log
Noop, these are only the errors from nginx.
clog /var/log/system.log to see the principal log file, the one PHP is using.

It's not PHP that complains in that log file : it's the entire pfSense that reboots without notice - several times.
Goto Youtube => Netgate channel and do what's being said in the "fsck" video. Just to be sure the file system is ok.
Example : the last time my pfSense rebooted by itself, me not understanding why, was in .... 2017 - I guess.Hardware error ?
Resource problem ? Check memory motoring, number of processes, processor utilisation, etc.
Power issues ? -
@Gertjan Well when I lose the remote access and the users complain about Gateway 502 error. I ask some local person to hard reboot the firewall. That is why those entries. This has been happening every alternate day.
Now that ssh is enable I'll try to restart php-fpm n check the status.
Also I'll watch those youtube videos and look for hardware issues. -
@Gertjan Also forgot to mention I am using zfs - mirror.
UPS with good backup is installed at location.
I'll anyway check for other hardware issues.
