pfSense and Global Cache iTach Flex
-
I am troubleshooting an issue with discovery for my Global Cache iTach Flex, which is part of my home automation system. The Flex was lost to the home automation software interacting with it around the time I installed pfSense, so I am thinking pfSense is blocking it somehow. The device is discovered by "a periodic UDP beacon, and the multicast DNS (mDNS) mechanism." Although I have enough knowledge (with the help of the web) to get pfSense up and running, I do not have enough to figure out whether pfSense needs to be adjusted in some way (e.g., by adding on another service). So, help would be appreciated. Thanks. Elliott

Basically, setting up these "gadgets, IoT" right is not just a pfSense question...
Incorrect configuration of switches in the system can also cause problems (IGMP - Multicast)I don't know about original Netgate tutorials on the subject, but I found this one created by Lawrence Systems,
(also have good tutorials)

Thank you! I will look at this. Elliott

if I can help you with multicast configuration of switches, "PING" me in the forum...
I deal mostly with DANTE AoIP (https://www.audinate.com) systems, so I’m in the "picture" with mDNS, IGMP, etc... -
@DaddyGo Thank you very much for the offer. I am going to try on my own first, before tapping into your expertise. Elliott
